Typing speed test
Check your WPM and accuracy. Free, no ads, no sign-up.
Built to fix what people dislike about typing tests
We read what typists complain about on forums and review sites, then built the opposite.
Scores you can trust
Every site counts WPM differently and easy word lists inflate results. We publish our formula, rate the difficulty of every test and offer a fixed Standard test so scores are comparable.
No ads, no lag
Ads make other tests stutter and drop keystrokes. Keystride has none, loads in a blink and keeps working offline once you have visited.
No account needed
Full history and stats without signing up. Your data stays in your browser, and you can export it whenever you like.
Type on the text itself
No separate input box to split your attention. You type directly on the words, with a smooth caret you can restyle.
Your rules for mistakes
Hate being forced to fix errors, or want to be? Choose stop on letter, stop on word or keep going, and pick how much backspacing is allowed.
Real words, never locked
Practice uses real words weighted to your weakest keys, not nonsense strings, and every lesson is open from day one.
The most detailed results of any free typing test
Speed chart with errors
Net and raw WPM second by second, with every mistake marked where it happened.
Keyboard heatmap
See which keys cost you accuracy or time, for this test or across your whole history.
Finger analysis
Workload, accuracy and speed for each finger, plus left and right hand balance.
Keystroke replay
Watch your test again, every keystroke at the moment you typed it, at 1×, 2× or 4×.
Rhythm and letter pairs
How evenly you type, your longest hesitation and the slowest letter pairs to work on.
Consistency and difficulty
How steady your pace was, and a 1–10 difficulty rating so you know how hard the text was.

How is WPM calculated on Keystride?
One word is counted as five characters, including spaces. Your WPM counts the characters of words you typed correctly, divided by five, divided by the minutes taken. Raw speed counts everything you typed. The full method, with examples, is on our WPM guide.
Why is my score different on other typing sites?
Sites use different word lists, different rules for mistakes and different ways of counting. Easy word lists push scores up. Keystride shows a difficulty score with every result and offers a fixed Standard test, so you can compare like with like. We explain the differences in this guide.
What is a good typing speed?
It depends on what you need it for, but on Keystride's scale 50 to 69 WPM is fluent, 70 to 89 is fast and 90 and above is very fast. Accuracy matters just as much. See what is a good typing speed.
Do I need an account?
No. Every result, stat and lesson is saved in your browser. You can export a backup file and import it on another device from the stats page.
Is my typing data sent anywhere?
No. The test runs entirely on your device and what you type is never sent anywhere. If you allow it, Google Analytics counts visits and which features are used, with results rounded into ranges. You can say no, or switch it off at any time in settings. There are no ads. Details are in our privacy policy.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Tap the text to bring up your keyboard. Keystride reads input in a way that works with on-screen keyboards, so autocorrect and predictive text do not break the test. Turning autocorrect off still gives the cleanest result.
Can I use Dvorak, Colemak or another layout?
Yes. You can type on any layout. In settings, choose QWERTY, Dvorak or Colemak so your keyboard heatmap and finger stats are drawn correctly.
Can I practise my own text?
Yes. Choose custom in the test bar and paste any text. It stays in your browser.
