Terms of Use

In short: Keystride is free to use. Use it fairly, do not try to break it or copy it, and understand that it is provided as it is, without guarantees.

1. Who we are

Keystride (keystride.novasite.co.za) is owned and operated by Nova Site, a web design studio based in Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa ("Nova Site", "we", "us" or "our"). You can contact us at info@novasite.co.za or +27 75 947 9549.

2. Accepting these terms

By using Keystride you agree to these Terms of Use, our Privacy Policy and our Disclaimer. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. If you are under 18, please read these terms with a parent or guardian.

3. The service

Keystride offers free typing tests, practice, lessons, a daily challenge, personal statistics and articles. You do not need an account. We may change, add or remove features, or suspend or stop the site, at any time and without notice. We do not promise that the site will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors.

4. Your data stays on your device

Your results, settings and progress are stored in your own browser, as explained in our Privacy Policy. We cannot see, restore or recover them. Clearing your browser data, using private browsing, or changing device or browser can delete them. You are responsible for keeping backups with the export option on the Stats page.

5. Fair use

You agree not to:

  • use the site for anything unlawful;
  • attempt to hack, disrupt or overload the site, or gain unauthorised access to it or the systems it runs on;
  • use bots, scripts or other automated tools to take tests, or present automated, edited or otherwise false results as genuine typing results;
  • scrape, copy or mirror the site or its content in bulk;
  • remove or change any copyright or attribution notice;
  • frame the site, or present it as your own or as connected to another business.

6. Text you enter

If you practise with your own custom text, you are responsible for having the right to use it. Custom text stays in your browser and is never sent to us.

7. Intellectual property

The Keystride name and logo, and the site's design, code, word lists, passages, code snippets, articles and other content, belong to Nova Site or are used under licence. They are protected by copyright and other laws. You may:

  • use the site for personal, educational and workplace typing practice;
  • share links to any page;
  • share your own results and result images;
  • quote short extracts from our articles, with a link back to the original page.

Anything else, including republishing our articles, word lists or passages, or reusing our code or design, needs our written permission. The Inter and JetBrains Mono fonts are used under the SIL Open Font License. Other names and trademarks mentioned on the site belong to their owners and are used only to identify them.

8. Results are estimates

Speed, accuracy and other statistics are calculated by your browser and can be affected by your device, keyboard, browser, extensions and settings. They are provided for practice and personal interest. Keystride results are not an official certification of typing ability.

9. Health

Typing for long periods can cause strain. Take regular breaks and stop if you feel pain. The information on Keystride is general information and not medical advice. See our Disclaimer.

Our articles link to other websites, mostly as sources. We do not control those websites and are not responsible for their content, availability or how they handle your information.

11. No warranties

Keystride is provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent allowed by law, we make no promises or warranties of any kind, express or implied, about the site, its content or its results, including that they are accurate, complete, reliable, suitable for a particular purpose, or free of viruses or other harmful components.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Nova Site and its owners, employees and contractors are not liable for any loss or damage of any kind, whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, that arises from your use of, or inability to use, Keystride. This includes loss of data, loss of income or profit, and loss arising from reliance on any result or information on the site.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability, or any right you have, that cannot be excluded or limited by law, including under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 where it applies to you.

13. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify Nova Site against any claims, losses and costs, including reasonable legal costs, that arise from your breach of these terms or your misuse of the site.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. If you keep using Keystride after a change, you accept the updated terms.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any dispute about them will be decided by the courts of South Africa. This does not take away any rights you have under the consumer laws of the country you live in.

16. General

If any part of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains in force. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we have not given it up. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Disclaimer, are the whole agreement between you and Nova Site about Keystride.
